Oregon charter school founders accused of $20M fraud

According to The Oregonian, Tim King and Norm Donohoe, who ran a chain of taxpayer-funded charter schools across small-town Oregon from their headquarters in Clackamas, have scammed the state out of $17 million and must repay that plus $2.7 million more, the state said in a recent court filing.

California appellate court rules that district can use norming ratios to determine classroom space for charter schools

The California Court of Appeals, Second Appellate District, has ruled that the Los Angeles Unified School District did not violate Prop 39, which requires public school districts to share their facilities fairly among all public school pupils, including those in charter schools, when it used norming ratios to determine appropriate classroom space for charter schools.

Idaho Board of Ed upholds charter revocation of school involved in suit over use of religious tracts as textbooks

The Idaho State Board of Education (IBOE) has upheld the Idaho Public Charter School Commission’s (IPCSC) 4-3 decision to revoke Nampa Classical Academy’s (NCA) charter, reports KTVB 7. IBOE stated that NCA’s ongoing financial problems were the basis for the revocation.

IDEA’s stay-put provision does not override school district’s right under state law to challenge charter school and parent’s decision to place student in private school

In a non-precedential decision, a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit has affirmed a federal district court’s denial of special education student’s motion for a preliminary injunction ordering a school district to pay for the student’s private school placement during pendency of the suit to determine if the placement was appropriate under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
