Iowa appellate court remands tree nut allergy case for further review

In a 2-1 split, the Iowa Court of Appeals has reversed the decision of a state trial court which held that a child’s tree nut allergy did not constitute a disability under the Iowa Civil Rights Act on grounds that the trial court’s analysis was incomplete.

Missouri parent claims daughter was subjected to racial discrimination and harassment by basketball coach

According to The Examiner, Fred Lane, the father of a Blue Springs South High School sophomore basketball player, Cloe Lane, who is black, is suing the Blue Springs School District in Jackson County Circuit Court, citing racial discrimination, harassment, retaliation and civil rights violations, and is seeking punitive damages.

U.S. Departments of Education and Justice investigate Louisiana district for claims of discrimination against Latino students

The Times-Picayune reports that in following up on a complaint by the Southern Poverty Law Center, the U.S. Departments of Education and Justice will be investigating whether the Jefferson Parish school system discriminates against its Latino students.

Arizona settles federal government complaint over identifying students as English language learners

The Republic reports the Arizona Department of Education has settled a complaint brought by the U.S. Departments of Justice and Education as a result of an investigation that revealed that tens of thousands of students were incorrectly identified as being fluent in English.
