ACLU drops threat of suit after Pennsylvania school board provides gay student club with the same rights as other noncurricular clubs

The Chambersburg Area School District’s school board has voted 5-4 to reverse its decision and provide the Gay Straight Alliance (GSA) with the same rights and privileges as any other noncurricular club at the school.

Pennsylvania district threatened with suit for refusal to recognize gay-straight alliance club

As reported on Fox43.com, following a 5-4 vote by the local school board to refuse to recognize a Gay-Straight Alliance club at Chambersburg Area Senior High School, the American Civil Liberties Union of Pennsylvania and Equality Pennsylvania sent a letter to the Chambersburg Area School District officials saying the Board is in violation of the federal Equal Access Act.

Pennsylvania district settles suit over truancy fines imposed on parents

According to the Lebanon Daily News, the Lebanon school board unanimously agreed to settle a lawsuit involving the district’s truancy policy and accusations that it excessively fined parents of minority students with multiple unexcused absences.

New Jersey court finds no violation of state anti-discrimination law in district’s assignment of special education students to one school

A Bergen County Superior Court has ruled that a school district had not failed to provide disabled students receiving special education services with reasonable accommodations in violation of the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination when the district assigned those students to one school, rather than assigning each to their neighborhood school.

Religious group sues Pennsylvania district for assessing fee to use school facilities for Bible club

The Patriot News reports that the Child Evangelism Fellowship of Dauphin County Inc. has filed suit in federal court against the Harrisburg School District, alleging that HSD’s demand for CEF to pay an annual rental fee of $1,200 to hold a Bible-based after-school program is not only excessive, but discriminatory.
