The Seventh Circuit has ruled that under Illinois state law substitute teachers do not have probationary status or tenure eligibility and therefore time spent as a full-time substitute teacher can not be considered in the four-year requirement to award tenure.

A federal district court in Texas has denied a student’s motion for a preliminary injunction barring a school district from transferring her from the specialty program she attends back to her base school because she refuses to wear the required ID badge while on campus.

Federal appellate court rules that Wisconsin district is not liable for drowning death of student on class outing

According to a report in Education Week, a three-judge panel of the Seventh Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals has ruled that a Milwaukee school district may not be held liable under federal civil rights law for the drowning death of a 12-year-old student on a class outing to a lake.

Federal appellate court rules former Michigan school security guards were not deprived of due process when they were terminated

A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit has affirmed a district court’s decision granting judgment to a school district, ruling that the district did not deprive school security guards of property without due process of law when it terminated their employment without notice or hearing to outsource their positions.
