California appellate court rules that district can use norming ratios to determine classroom space for charter schools

The California Court of Appeals, Second Appellate District, has ruled that the Los Angeles Unified School District did not violate Prop 39, which requires public school districts to share their facilities fairly among all public school pupils, including those in charter schools, when it used norming ratios to determine appropriate classroom space for charter schools.

Schools ask Colorado Supreme Court to uphold funding ruling

As reported by the Associated Press on denverpost.com, schools and parents suing Colorado over how it funds education are urging the state Supreme Court to uphold a lower court ruling that found the current system to be “irrational and inadequate.” The plaintiffs said in their recent filing that the way Colorado funds education prevents districts from teaching an up-to-date curriculum, puts low-income students at a disadvantage, and leaves buildings in some places unsafe.

Parents of female student-athletes excluded from athletic facility file Title IX suit against Kentucky school district

Two female student-athletes at North Oldham High School (NOHS) in Goshen, Kentucky and their parents have filed a suit against the Oldham County Board of Education, according to Courthouse News Service, alleging use of NOHS’s fieldhouse, constructed in 2008, is restricted to male student-athletes in violation of Title IX.
