Minnesota district and local police investigate bullies’ online comments encouraging suicide

KMSP-TV Fox 9 reports that Anoka-Hennepin School District and police are investigating a group of middle school students who took a fight to Facebook and began a bout of cyber-bullying that crossed a scary line. Officials say at least one of the bullies made a post on Facebook urging a group of girls to go kill themselves.

According to the Bangor Daily News, Penobscot County Superior Court Justice William Anderson has heard oral arguments in a discrimination suit brought by the parents of a transgender student over the local school district’s handling of their transgender child’s transition from male to female.

Gay student files discrimination suit, claims Indiana district failed to stop bullying

The Indianapolis Star reports that Darnell Young and his mother, Chelisa Grimes, have filed suit against Indianapolis Public Schools for a series of alleged bullying incidents that led Young to fire a stun gun inside Arsenal Technical High School this past spring to scare away bullies.

The Orange County Register reports that Fullerton Union High School (FUHS) Vice Principal Joe Abell has been temporarily removed from his position after he disqualified a gay student from the “Mr. Fullerton” pageant.

Federal district court in Georgia rejects student body president’s request for temporary injunction reinstating him

A federal district court in Georgia has denied a high school student’s motion for a temporary restraining order (TRO) that would reinstate him as student body president. Rejecting the student’s argument that he was removed from office for asserting his First Amendment free speech rights, the court agreed with the school district that he had been removed from office for non-speech reasons.

ACLU announces settlement of suit over Missouri district blocking LGBT websites

An Associated Press (AP) report at NECN.com says the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has announced it has settled a lawsuit with a central Missouri school district whose Internet filtering software was blocking access to nonsexual websites about lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) issues.
