Federal district court rules that provision in Arkansas Public School Choice Act limiting student school transfers based on race is unconstitutional

A federal district court in Arkansas has ruled that a provision in the state’s Public School Choice Act of 1989 that limits a student’s statutory right to transfer from one public school district to another in the state based on the race of the student seeking the transfer violates the Equal Protection Clause of the U.S. Constitution’s Fourteenth Amendment.

Missouri court rules that law allowing students from unaccredited districts to transfer to neighboring accredited districts violates state law against unfunded mandates

The Courthouse News Service reports that St. Louis County Judge David Lee Vincent has ruled against students from the unaccredited St. Louis school system seeking to transfer to schools in the neighboring Clayton School District.

Federal district court dismisses female student’s Title IX suit involving district’s refusal of mid-year request for transfer to honors math class

A federal district court in New York state has granted a school district’s motion to dismiss a student’s Title IX suit, which alleges that the school district had previously refused to grant her a mid-year transfer to an accelerated math program.
