NRA unveils school safety recommendations

A National Rifle Association (NRA) task force has issued a report, in response to the Newtown, Connecticut school shooting, recommending the creation of programs that give additional weapons training to school resource officers as well as “selected and designated school personnel” who could then carry arms.

A local news affiliate, WZZM13.com, reports that members of the board of the Rockford Public Schools has approved a new “weapons-free school zone” policy for the district, which would prohibit any unauthorized firearms on campuses.

According to an Associated Press report, South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard signed a bill allowing the state’s school districts to arm teachers and other personnel with guns.
